Frank Toner Sr.
Owner, 1978–2000Frank Sr. began working for Toner Electric in 1973 and took over as President in 1978, growing the company from a single-truck operation into a trusted local brand. He retired in 2000, handing management to his sons.

The late Richard Toner founds the company and opens for business in Newport, performing commercial and residential installations throughout Newport County and the Newport Naval Base.

Richard's nephew Frank Toner Sr. takes over, incorporates Toner Electric Company, and runs a one-man operation from his home in Middletown.

1987
The business moves to 305 Oliphant Lane in Middletown as it grows, with sons Frank Jr. and Scott entering the trade.

2010
Frank Sr. retires and his sons take over as owners. Frank Toner Jr. is President and Scott Toner is Vice President. Frank Sr. remains involved as a part-time consultant.

Founder · 1952–1978
Richard Toner
Richie founded Toner Electric Company in 1952 when he opened for business at 62 West Broadway (now Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard) in Newport. He started doing residential work and then moved on to commercial, municipal, and US Navy contracting. He retired in 1978.
In his spare time, Richie was a pilot, thoroughbred horse enthusiast, and amateur historian, particularly interested in Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War, and Hollywood producers. After he retired, he started every day with a two-mile walk. He passed away in 2000 at age 82.

Frank Toner Jr.
President since 1992Frank started learning the trade under his father's mentorship, then joined full-time after college in 1992. He oversees all major projects and is your contact for commercial and fire alarm work.
Scott Toner
Vice President since 1995Scott spent several years working side by side with Frank Sr. before becoming Vice President in 1995. He handles day-to-day operations and is your contact for residential work.
Aidan Toner
Apprentice Electrician since 2022Aidan represents the fourth generation of Toner Electric. He is training as an apprentice electrician, learning the trade from his father and uncle while studying at the University of Rhode Island.

James Robinson
Journeyman Electrician since 2000"Jimmy" specialises in fire alarm installations, testing and repairs, and is likely the one you will see when your fire alarm needs testing. He has an outgoing personality and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Russ Ramos
Journeyman Electrician since 2005Russ specialises in commercial electrical wiring and fire alarm testing. He takes pride in his work and is routinely complimented for his work ethic, friendliness and neatness.
Steve Cook
Journeyman Electrician since 2020Steve began his career after high school and was a quick learner thanks to his mechanical mind. He specialises in new construction and electrical upgrades, and receives many compliments for his attention to detail. His nickname is "Cookie".
Jeff Belli
In memory · 2004–2025Jeff was a veteran of the US Army who served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before joining Toner Electric. A licensed journeyman electrician and certified Generac technician, he led our generator division for two decades. He enjoyed hiking, skydiving and ATVing. He is greatly missed.
Following Jeff's passing, our generator division closed in April 2025. Read the notice from Scott Toner.
